What’s New
Junior Broadcaster
Is your child the next Joe Angel or Gary Thorne? If you know any Orioles fans who are 12 years old or younger and have dreams of working in big-league broadcasting, sign them up for ESPN Zone's Junior Broadcaster contest, taking place Monday, August 11th and Tuesday, August 12th at 12 p.m.
ENTER: There are two ways to enter: 1) Stop by the SportsCenter Studio Store inside ESPN Zone and fill out a sign-up form or 2) Call (410) 685-3776 ext. 223 and leave your name, contestant’s name and age, and telephone number on the voice mailbox. If your youngster has a preferred date to compete, be sure to note that as well. All confirmed entries will receive a response. Space is limited, so enter today!
COMPETE: In Round One, each contestant will sit behind a microphone on-set at ESPN Zone and present the play-by-play for one Orioles highlight. Contestants may either recite the original broadcaster's play-by-play (a transcript of which will be provided) or present their own original play-by-play. Judges -- including Orioles broadcaster Jim Hunter -- will then select five finalists, who will each call a second, different play-by-play. Judges will provide feedback and vote, which counts for half of the final results. The other half will come from fans in attendance, so come out and support your favorite Junior Broadcaster!
WIN: Each day, two winners will be selected to spend a day in the broadcast booth at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The winners will also receive game tickets and an ESPN Zone prize pack.

Battle of the Birds
Congratulations to the Oriole Bird, winner of ESPN Zone’s inaugural Battle of the Birds! Before the first pitch of the Orioles series against the Washington Nationals, the mascots visited ESPN Zone to see who would be the best bird in baseball! The Oriole Bird took on the Nats’ mascot, an eagle named Screech, in a series of contests that included arm wrestling, tug-o-war, an egg race, shooting hoops, and horse racing. After a hard-fought battle, the Oriole Bird was declared the champion and took home the Golden Birdhouse trophy (along with a supply of birdseed). Both birds stuck around to sign autographs and pose for pictures with fans.
